The general purpose of the Thunderbird Circle of Orange County, Chapter 78, the Southern California Regional Group, incorporated as a nonprofit society, shall be the enhancement and recognition of the 1955, 1956 and the 1957 Ford Thunderbird as an international marque and to bring owners and admirers together who subscribe to these objectives. It is also the ideals of the Thunderbird Circle of Orange County club to serve as an accurate and technical source of information concerning these automobiles for the benefit of its members as well as the general public.

The Thunderbird Circle of Orange County is composed of people interested in Ford Motor Company’s Thunderbird model cars that were manufactured during the early years of 1955, 1956 and 1957. Or during the retro years of 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. We have over 60 (families) with most members living in the southern California area.

Our club was founded as a breakaway club from the Early Birds of Southern California.  Most members of the Thunderbird Circle lived in Orange County and did not like having to drive the 20-30 miles to Los Angeles County to attend meetings or club functions.  So, on August 4, 1973 a group of friends gathered together and decided to create a new car club.  Some of them were Jerry Sellers, George Watts, Cynthia Reynolds, Billy Hall Hence the name Thunderbird Circle relating to the circle of friends that created the Thunderbird Circle. Our founding members almost dissolved the club shortly after its formation, but by the flip of a silver dollar we remained a club, and as they say “The rest is history”. Some of our founding members have now passed away.  Several are still alive play an active role in the club.

We have monthly meetings/events, including cruises and tours throughout the year. Ownership of a Thunderbird is NOT a requirement for membership. All that's needed is an interest in the "Early Birds" or "Retro Birds" and a desire to have some fun.  Over the years, our membership has grown to include members living in other counties, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino.

The Thunderbird Circle of Orange County, Southern California is chapter 78 of the Classic Thunderbird Club International CTCI. CTCI was founded in 1963 and incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in California in 1965. Starting with only a few founding members has grown to over 6,600 members world wide. In 1997 CTCI purchased a permanent headquarters building in the city of Signal Hill, California. CTCI sanctions an International Convention held during all even-numbered years and six Regional Conventions in odd-numbered years.
